This is an attic dark, not black, Springfield with a day's lock of 1861 but just a little too much flash to see a date in the barrel.
You can der the VP eagle head and a very faint inspector mark.
Good crisp action.
Maybe 5 cuts behind the lock for 5 kills OR they are simply use marks... I suspect someone will speak up.
Butt plate has US
Thoughts?

Kramers??? Does cleaning it mess with value?
Thanks
Kramer's Best is an antique restorer. It doesn't remove patina and helps preserve wood as well as prevent rust. It puts the oils back into the stock reversing drying out and in some cases will restore the wood to its original sheen.

I use it at the museum on all of the wood & metal artifacts. A single bottle goes a long way. I think I've used two bottles at the museum in the last 10 years. I try to give everything a light cleaning every 6 mos or so.

You use a soft cloth to apply it then 30 or so minutes later buff it and the difference is enormous. I've had some items where the wood soaked up the Kramer's so much that it was dry to the touch in minutes. After 5-6 coats of Kramer's over a week the wood was healthy again.

Sorry the link didn't stick to the original post.
