This recipe from Godey's Lady's Book, Sept. 1880. It was around before this time.

It is a variation of the Floating Island. Godey's states it is easy to make.

Dandy Pudding

Four eggs
5 tablespoons white sugar
4 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn starch
one quart of milk
vanilla


Beat the eggs separating the whites from yolks. To the whites add 5 tablespoons of white sugar. To the yolks add the brown sugar and starch and milk. Stir well and flavor with vanilla. Pour into dish. Put white on top. Brown in oven. Can be eaten warm or cold.
