In Custer's case it was a supportive device as he may have had a condition with his reproductive organs, possibly a varicocele, which may have caused pain, particularly when riding a horse.

Although the evidence is anecdotal this may have been the reason that Custer and Libby never had children.

Then Brother Tom should of assisted after all he was a hero too with 2 MOH:help: Still would had the Custer DNA passed on!

Is that the sort of thing you'd order from the back of a magazine or periodical? Like the long ago ads for cloth braces or trusses for hernias."Over the counter" they'd call these days.Or is it some high quality medical device special made by a real doctor,"Prescription".

It is my impression that Custer contracted gonorrhea that rendered him sterile. Not sure what treatments were given for that particular ailment in those days and have no idea if the jock strap device could somehow be connected to that. Also not sure about how all this would effect his riding abilities but he seems to have been able to work around that if it did.
