Sweet Baked Goods Custard Pie

Ingredients:

3 eggs​
1 heaping tbsp. sugar​
1-1/2 milk​
salt​
nutmeg​
common pastry crust​

Instructions:

For a large pie, put in three eggs, a heaping tablespoonful of sugar, one pint and a half of milk, a little salt, and some nutmeg grated on. For crust, use common pastry.​

This is said to be the original custard pie recipe. It is creamy and smooth and not too sweet. If you want to dress it up some, add freshly whipped cream on top and dust with toasted coconut.

Interesting. Indiana's State Pie is "Sugar Cream Pie,"
A "state pie"? Who knew? One wonders how long the Legislature pondered that issue, how many varieties of pie had to be submitted for consideration and dutifully sampled by every duty-bound legislator....

Best I can tell, the resolution was passed by the Senate with no real discussion, and has been ignored ever since (i.e., hasn't been passed by both houses), so, although even the Indiana Gov site lists it as the State Pie, it's only an undisputed unofficial designation. :wink:
