Good afternoon all,

Out of curiosity, was the 1863 Springfield around early enough to have seen some use at Gettysburg? I know the 1861's, 55's, P53's, Lorenz, Sharps, Spencers, Burnsides, etc etc were obviously the primary shoulder fired arms, but I have never seen any pictures or documents proving that the 1863 was there, however limited they may have been.

Any input is greatly appreciated. The more you know.....

Production of the Springfield 1863 only began in April 1863, so very doubtful they got inspected, shipped and then issued in time for Gettysburg IMHO
I agree Massachusetts was one of the first to order some 12000 or so and didnt recieve them till very late 1863 with the majority delivered early 1864.

To my knowledge none were at Gettysburg unless some were field tested possibly.
