CSS Nashville armor

An excellent point about the two CSS Nashvilles. I was thinking in terms of the ironclad, but maybe it is from the raider.
As the raider Nashville was originally built as a commercial steamer, I would think that it was reasonable that ironwork would be fancier such as having stars. Also, if your materials are from the raider; then you may have a more interesting find than you would if they came from the ironclad as it (the raider)was the first ship to show the Confederate flag in English waters.

I think your reasoning is very sound and I appreciate your insights.

After the fall of Mobile, Spanish Fort & Blakley the Nashville along with CSS Tuscaloosa & Huntsville retreated up the Tombigbee where they were surrender to Union forces.
I thought they were sunk in the river so the Yankees couldn't have them.

Hi All,
Would anyone know who manufactured the iron plating for the CSS Nashville? Possibly Tredegar Ironworks, of Richmond? I have an opportunity to acquire several pieces of plating which have slightly raised stars on the plate surface. I'm trying to authenticate if possible. Also, a piece of wood from the ship. Interesting relics.
Thank you! John
I would need a complete provenance as to their travel from 1865-7 until now. There are many profiteers out there and once a collector is fooled and stays in that collection for a period of time, it becomes harder to tell fact from fiction.

Unfortunately, like many items related to the Civil War, perfected provenance is a rare thing. Agree with your point that just because it is in a " collection", doesn't necessarily
mean it is authentic. Other authentic items in the same collection may increase your odds, but for sure no guarantee.
