I ran across this photo accompanying a link to a short news story about the Hunley. The David-type boat was not referenced in the story, and it appears to be a reconstruction, probably for a movie of some sort. Does anyone have information about the reconstruction? Here is a link to the AOL news link-page:

Neat find !

I agree the image appears to be a modern reconstruction of a Confederate David vessel, but I'm not aware of any specifics. (movie, documentary, ect.)

Perhaps our Naval experts can help identify this image.

It's from a CBS TV production called "The Great Adventure", a historical anthology series from 1963-64.
The first episode was called "The Hunley" that aired on this day, 55 years ago (Sept. 27, 1963).
The image is certainly from that episode.
Now I need to find out if this thing still exists!!!

A little info on the TV episode...
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0592453/

The only cast members I recognized were Jim Nabors & George Lindsay, both from the Andy Griffith Show, and James MacArthur from Hawaii Five-O.
The Executive Producer was Bert Granet, who gave us "The Twilight Zone" and "The Untouchables".

Anyone got a copy to share?
Better yet, anyone have a friend at CBS that might be able to tell us if this prop still exists????

I may have seen this. The 1960's were a great time for a young kid interested in the Civil War being the 100th year and all. It was all over our black and white tv every night. I remember seeing one about a CSS sub the Hunley. Back then I didn"t know there was anything called the David.
