Very interesting. I presume these are the "Greene County Riflemen." In his journal, Assistant Surgeon Thomas Fanning Wood wrote: Skinker's Co. "A" - 1863 Captain Albritton This company was one of the best in the Regiment. There was a greater majority of educated men than in any other. From its ranks its officers were generally selected. Walter Clarke, the excellent Regimental Ordinance Sergeant was chosen from it. Albritton's 1st Lt. was Lane, a very gentlemanly officer who was captured at Spotsylvania.

I checked North Carolina Troops, 1861—1865, A Roster and you are correct, most of the men were from Greens County and the company was known as the "Greene County Riflemen."

I know this an old post, but I wondered whether you ever had any luck with id's? or the original source?

No, unfortunately, the men in most pictures of old vets aren't identified. I have a local picture of old Confederate veterans made about 1910. So far My SCV camp has identified two. Both men served in Company D, 46th NC Infantry. We think it is veterans from that company, but can't be positive.
