Confederate accoutrements have been sought after by collectors for decades. CS embossed cartridge boxes are the "Holy Grail" and you might only see one for sale once in your lifetime.

I respect Shannon's opinion, but I have always looked at these askance as the box without the embossing is a $7,000 box at most, the embossing then makes it $15,000 higher. How easy would it be to emboss a couple boxes, considering there is really nothing to compare them to?

As the famous Lanyard Puller says, if there is only one you don't want to own it.......

Attention Forum members, please accept my apology for a serious mistake I made in the title of this thread.

The CS markings on this cartridge box are impressed, not embossed.

The only other known CS marked cartridge box is the Houston Depot cartridge box. The markings are impressed.

Not a cartridge box, but turned up by one of the forum members, is a cap box with the name McKenzie impressed on the front. I knew the box was rare when I first saw it, but did not have a clue how so, until I went to the Richmond Show and saw it in person.

The member sold it to another on the forum, who in turn sold it to a dealer out of Florida, for a mid 4 figure number! There are only four known and Confederate accouterment expert Michael Kramer had two, but sold one, the one pictured and one in the Milwaukee History Museum. They were made by a shoemaker in Charleston, SC.

I asked the dealer if he was going to sell it and he said that no it was going into his collection.
