The only remarkable aspect of the photograph is that he has tucked his frock coat skirts into his trousers for the photograph, this is a well-known photograph of Lt. James Bussey of Co. D 2nd MD CSA.

As others have said, this is not a cavalry officer but James Thomas Bussey who at the time the photograph, was a 2nd Lt of Co D 2nd MD CS. He enlisted in Co C 1st MD at Fairfax County Courthouse 8/17/61. His buttons are not grouped in 4s, but rather his coat is bunched up as he decided to tuck his frock tails into his trousers, for his portrait.

Photograph was taken at the A.J. Riddle Gallery 151 Main St. in Richmond, VA
