Has anyone on here purchased the Kits from County Cloth? If so, how difficult was it to complete? To give you a frame of reference, I have put buttons on something a few times, but that is about it. Any insight someone could provide would be appreciated.

If you have some familiarity with basic sewing techniques you shouldn't have too hard of a time at it. I usually put together a coat in less than a week working a few hours a day on it.

The main stitches used on garment construction are the running stitch, back stitch, over casting, buttonhole stitch, and blind stitching. You should be able to find Youtube videos explaining how to do those if you are not familiar. If you are looking at taking on your first real project I would recommend cutting your teeth with a haversack or shirt since they are much cheaper to make if you mess up.

County Cloth delivers a quality product, but it is expected that you will be relatively familiar with garment construction. The instructions do not include many illustrations; those that are included are line drawings. The directions tend to not go into a lot of detail either.

For a complete novice I would recommend a kit from Wambaugh, White and Company like @captaindrew suggested. Their directions are much more detailed and have detailed color photos of each step.

Good luck,
Garrett
