This sword is from my dad's collection. He had in his notes that it was a Confederate engineers sword. It has no markings other than "Deo Vindice" on the drag and CS on the guard. The only thing I know about ID'ing fake swords is the five minutes I skimmed one of his books on the subject. I know one tell is the scabbard rings and this one does look like it has the proper rings. He was pretty sure it was genuine. I just wanted to make sure and if it is see if anyone had any other info on it.

Yep, A total FAKE. You have to ask yourself, "Self", Why the Deo Vindice" in really crisp modern day stamping on the drag, where nobody ever sees it.

That's what I was afraid of. That stuck out to me like a sore thumb, but I figured I'd check.

He got this one when he first started collecting CW items (mids 90s) and I have no idea what he paid (I hope not much), so I'm giving him a pass on it lol. I remember him saying he thought one of the CS swords was a fake. Oh well I'll keep it as a wall hanger.
