I'm looking for information on the Confederate Naval Squadrons on the Atlantic coast during 1864-1865 as part of a small project to look into John Tucker's and Raphael Semmes's Naval Brigades. However, there isn't much information available. These are the four squadrons that I know made up parts of the Brigades:

- the Charleston Squadron, originally commanded by Commodore Tucker himself;
- the James River Squadron, originally commanded by Admiral Semmes himself;
- the Wilmington/Cape Fear Squadron (not sure about the actual name, or the commander); and
- the Savannah Squadron (also not sure about the name or commander).

Does anybody know where I can find a breakdown of the ships and/or officers of each of these squadrons? Thanks!

As far as I'm aware the Wilmington Squadron didn't really have an official name, just being called the Wilmington Squadron or Cape Fear Squadron interchangeably. It fell under the command of Commodore William F. Lynch who was granted authority over all CS naval operations in the state of North Carolina.

I've linked a google doc below in which, to the best of my ability, I have tried documenting all of the information I could find about most of the vessels that made up or acted in supporting roles of the Wilmington Squadron. I'm sure there are probably plenty of mistakes but it's the best I could muster with the scant resources on the ships of that fleet.

Mr. Scharf might be of some assistance. He has a chapter on each State/Station, etc.

Scharf's History, CS Navy, 1887.

Regarding the end of Tucker's brigade...

Tucker's naval force were principally the men from the other Squadrons who had been posted in the river batteries, rather than put aboard vessels of Semmes' James River Squadron before the fall of Richmond/Petersburg.
