Confederate Flag Bearer

I would like to see a photo of the figure and base; maybe shown sitting on a book shelf. I'm debating whether to attempt a 1/2 figure. That seems rather odd but these two flag bearers are very attractive.
Q: Have you ever tried painting the face with Oil paints? I'm not big into oil but I tried it because oils usually comes in colors that easily mix to make Flesh tone.

I found a 1/16 scale figure of a WW2 German figure I was looking for. So I may hold off buying a larger figure until I see how this one turns out. Besides, I still have my Verlinden 120mm figure of Stonewall Jackson that I should paint.

Since it will be a German Panzer trooper, it will be wearing a black uniform.
Q: Any suggestions on how to paint a black uniform with shadows & highlights?

I used to paint flesh exclusively with oils . The only negative was that they took a long time to dry .
There are some great WW2 1/16th German figures on the market . For black I would use Vallejo German gray ( stock # 70.995) as a base color . For shadows you could use black ( 70.950) and highlights can be done by mixing small amounts of basic flesh (70.815) to the German gray . If you haven't used acrylics before the key is to do repeated light washes for the shadows and highlights. Basically you are using tinted water and gradually build up the shadows or highlights using the shadow or highlight color . The good thing is the coats dry quickly so you can complete the process much quicker than with oils . I'll see if I can post a demo in the next day or so .

Here is a quick image I took . The lighting isn't great but it gives you some idea of the size . From the bottom of the base to the top of the flag is about 9".

I don't use acrylics. I will need to find an equivalent to Vallejo German gray ( stock # 70.995).
I have bought that expensive paint powder for adding dust and grime. But I can't get that to work. They recommend covering with a liquid seal but that just wipes it back off.

If you are using pigment powders they will rub off if you don't seal them . I use an old brush and take small amounts to gently rub into the figure . Since I don't touch the figure after painting I don't put a sealer on it . I simply put it in a display case and the pigment will not fall off if you use this method . When completed I only touch the base of the figure .

It is and I think it's a good basic reference source , but much more detailed information on the subjects can be found on the internet. I bought it about 20 years ago , but I don't remember where or the price . Unfortunately many of my old references have become obsolete due to the internet .
