confederate bummer cap

I have a brown homespun bummer cap that has a wooden disc sewn in the lining of the crown. has anyone ever heard of this being done. thanks for your input

here are some photos . the material seems to be homespun. seems to have had side buttons at one time, there are rust marks on the inside liner on both sides from where the button pins would have gone thru. cap is mostly machine stitched. the disc in the crown sounds and looks feels like wood. the bill is dried out leather and is pulling away from the stitching as it dries and curls. thanks for any info

Without seeing in person, it appears to be a very old reenactor's piece. Keep in mind that the centennial was over 50 years ago and those pieces have acquired the "look". The ticking sweatband and machine stitching give me pause. You do have a very nice looking cap, that is representative of a Southern piece!
