Company E, 5th Texas Infantry question

Hello everybody, I was wondering if someone had some information on the uniform worn by the 5th Texas Infantry's Company E (Dixie Blues). All I've seen is a black-and-white portrait photo and he's wearing a battleshirt but I don't know what color. Many thanks in advance to anybody who can explain what Co. E's uniforms looked like.

Look up a photo of Rufus and Meyers Felder from Co. E. Both are wearing a darker colored tunic, trimmed in black. It's longer than a jacket, shorter than a frock. Val Giles of the 4th is wearing an identical one

These are early war looks. By 1862, they would have been wearing the same jackets as everyone else in the ANV

There's a local (terrible) reenacting group here in Michigan that insists the Texans had special uniforms from the rest of the ANV. This is due to the fact that the group was founded by a well-known purveyour of overpriced and lower quality jackets who was part of the group saw a chance to make a few bucks

I can see no reason why they would have anything other than standard issue clothing

To be quite honest I'm very uninformed on this particular regiment, but I've seen a lot of photos of it.

Now for photos, I've seen of Company E. I would say early war, there was very little uniforms to it. I'm not sure which picture is being referred to, but I've seen one with a man in a black citizen's suit, one of a bearded gentleman in an odd solid colored shirt, (probably red, as red was a popular color), and another identified as 5th TX Co. E, but I'm not sure if their from Co. E or the 5th Texas at all, of two soldiers in CS frock coat, and full gear, (they look more like Georgia soldiers to me).

Going by that I would say early on they were come as you are, and that means, whatever they had on, or their wives/mother/hometown made up for them, but I would think they were in civilian clothing at the beginning as a uniform.

I'll have to look up where all they served before I can put together a picture of particular uniforms at particular battles, or rather time-periods of the war.

I am only giving just praise to a man who will do anything and everything for his CWT comrades! I have eyewitnesses to back me up. He is especially good climbing slopes!

I was a little off in how I remembered this photograph

This is Rufus and Meyers Felder of Co. E

Also attached is John Nathaniel Henderson of Co. E

And Val Giles of the 4th. He's wearing the tunic I described earlier. I had the photo of the Felders confused with a photo of the Taylor brothers of the 4th.

There is a series of photographs taken in the Texas Brigade camp in 1861/62 that may also help you in your search. Most of these were taken of the 1st I believe.
