I was saddened when I came across this link for Comanche the lone survivor of the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

http://www.garryowen.com/comanche2.htm

If this site is a true indication of the fate of Comanche, then I think we should all be outraged. I could not get the link to open up on Comanche being restored, so I do not know what might have changed. Comanche deserves better than to be pushed into a dark corner and forgotten. He should be returned back to the Little Big Horn battle site. The University of Kansas does not deserve to have this horse.

Rowanoak, I opened the link and read the information, looked at the photos of Comanche and the display. He's in a glass enclosure. It's a good, tasteful, well-done display at least as far as I can tell. I'm not sure what the problem might be, could you be more specific? So you are unable to open the link and see the display?

Lee

Lee, I just feel that this horse is an Icon of all war horses and though he is in a descent case he is not really on display for people to see him. I just do not like the idea of him being shoved off into a corner. He deserves better. Whether he is at Little Big Horn or at the University of Kansas he should be more readily accessible than he is now. Maybe the update has changed things.

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

I did not mean it to be insulting....lets clear that up. I know all about Comanche. Sould have been retired after the battle. Became an ICON for Lizzie Custer (Custer's wife) Whew....dang, gotta be careful here. Toured fairs. Etc. Stuffed. While what some of ya seem to take desire for truth is now becoming un-acceptable PC stuff. OK....I will in the future give ya the nice story.. Much myth rather than fact surrounding that horse. Odd, I felt Rowanoak feelings were touching. I do understand. I dont pull punches howevere and how that horse was used in the late 19th century is a sad commemtary on WHITE culture and the entire Native American Tribal Life. I guess this here forum wants nice. OK...I can do that.

Chances are that the LBH NPS doesn't want Comanche. Such exhibits are quite expensive.
