Colliding Bullets

You have to wonder what the odds were of two bullets hitting exactly nose to nose.

My son went to Gallipoli 5 years ago. They had numerous examples of bullets fused mid air forming "X"s and other variations. The Springfield Armory has some bullets which fused but I was more impressed by the rifle barrels that got wharped by god knows what...probably artillary projectiles. Dont think the soldier would ahve fared well.

How interesting! Have you heard of any cannonballs colliding(Question Mark not working). I was just reading about Dilger at Gettysburg supposedly spiking a Confederate cannon with one of his rounds, but understand it was doubtful.

Being relatively brittle cast iron and not soft lead, cannon balls/shells would tend to detonate or shatter if two hit head on.

There is a 12# Napoleon that belonged to a Rhode Island Battery sitting in the Rhode Island Statehouse that has a cannonball stuck in the mouth of the tube. The tube was struck by a cannonball and when the crew was attempting to ram home another ball, it became stuck in the bore and yes; there was already a powder charge in the cannon.
