Coffee On The Campaign

I enjoyed that vid, but I have a question, Brits very rarely drink black coffee, in fact I don't know anyone that drinks black coffee, did CW soldiers ever use sugar or milk in their coffee or wasn't it the done thing. And, one final question, do Americans still prefer to drink black coffee? its just that when ever I see an American TV show or movie, there is always a pot of coffee in the background somewhere, and they always seem to drink it black.

I won't say never, but milk/cream and sugar wouldn't have been available often in the field. I know from my (20th Century) Army service that strong, black coffee is still the beverage of choice. (In one office in Europe near Stuttgart where I worked for a time, the usual office staff was a major and a sergeant-first-class; they would start the coffee going in the morning and just add new coffee through the day, never removing the old grounds. By the evening, it was something fierce.)

I drink black coffee on a regular basis, though I don't mind the occasional latte or something to change things up.

(Come to think of it, I think I read somewhere of British naval officers coming back from visits to American vessels during WW2, feeling decidedly over-caffeinated.)

Perhaps its the coffee we have in England but drinking it black is pretty disgusting, I drink coffee more than I drink tea but its usually granulated instant coffee, I have a Tassimo Machine but even that comes in little pods, perhaps I need to try real coffee made from fresh beans and see what all the fuss is about. Anyone ever tried camp coffee.

In some occasions you would get a random square on a checker board that would contain the ground form of coffee, sugar, and cream.

There was a canned coffee product that had both sugar and cream mixed together. It was a "instant" coffee that all you had to do was add water

I have family members who drink it black. I think they're weird. And when I think you're weird, that's saying something.

I'm a big fan of tarted-up coffee. Cream, sugar, whipped cream, cinnamon and cloves, sprinkles of some sort...

My favorite to date is a holiday drink offered at Starbucks: Chestnut Praline Latte
