Civil War Statue

I received a statue of a Union solider for Christmas from my parents and was curious if anyone knew anything about it. I have attacked a couple of pictures to give everyone an idea of what it looks like.

I can tell you that it is a bronze statue about a foot plus tall and about eight inches wide. The front of the statue says "Army". The gun barrell (sticking up) comes off if you turn it. Intrestingly, as a feature of the piece, the gun stock is broken and laying at the foot of the soldier. The solider does appear to be a Union soldier. I don't see any other markings or indicators on the statue.

The piece was brought to my family's antique store in Northeastern Iowa.

Does anyone have any ideas who may have made it, where it comes from, a story behind it or how old it may be?

Thank you,
Bryan

Never seen anything like it, so am commenting from pure ignorance. If the gun stock is supposed to be sculptured broken like that, is the storyline supposedly that the soldier was fighting hand to hand, broke the stock, and is still carrying on? But why didn't he fix his bayonet?

Cool statue. I hope someone knows more about it.

Thank you. Yes I hope I can get some help figuring it out. It's very fascinating but I just don't know the history behind it. Hopefully someone will know.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Some artist (or whatever you call them-sculptors?) will make a small version of the concept before making the big statues. Our small Museum received such from the sculptor who did the Mississippi monument at Shiloh. It's about the size in your picture. Just a thought. Since you are from Iowa, you might want to look on The internet at Iowa statues across the country. You very well may find the big version of yours somewhere.

Thank you! That's very interesting. I am going to start doing some research into this and see what I can find.
