Just bought a page today at the PO. I don't use many stamps and still had some left over from Christmas as late as last month. So I notice that the page I bought only has Lee's Surrender and Five Forks. Is that just because it was for the month of April 1865? Surely there must be more variety.

You are lucky to get even those...I've been trying since April to find such stamps.

The P.O. has been selling Civil War stamps since 2011 - in memory of the Civil War.

This is the first time I noticed any at my branch PO. They have a bulletin board with various designs on it and I'd never seen any posted on it before now.

Ask for the 1861, 1862, 1863, 1864 Civil War Stamps...see if they have them.

War of 1812 Stamps have been for sale at the Post Office as well.

Here is the Civil War anniversary series of stamps. Two per were issued yearly commemorating 1861 to 1865.

I was thrilled that the USPS finally gave the navy it's due. The battles the navy was involved in were critical: 2012 was New Orleans; 2013 was Vicksburg; 2014 was Mobile Bay. Great naval scenes on all of them. The USPS took old lithographs and had their graphic artists work on them.

During the Centennial of 1961-1965 only one stamp was issued per year. I think their choices were to placate all regions. Nothing other than army battles.

Here's the current series that just ended:

NOW THE GOOD NEWS!!! You can still buy these great sheetlets. They're a great history lesson just reading them and the quotes on them. As you scroll through the on line catalog you'll find the 2012, 13, 14 and 15 are still available. Some of the first day covers (FDCs) are also available in digital (color) and machine stamped (black) postmarks.

You need to scroll through the catalog of what's available to find the CW issues. You can easily order on line.
