Civil war glasses?

My grandmother told me these glasses belonged to her grandfather and he wore them in the civil war. Does any one know anything about these glasses?

Welcome from The Heart Of Dixie. They are indeed CW period glasses as the frames are an exact match of a pair I dug in a CW camp. A lot of folks will say they were used by sharpshooters but they are side shield sunglasses. Very Nice.

I meant to say as well, that most of the dark lenses were meant for those who had "weak eyesight"..I always wondered who they might be. I always thought it might be those who were seriously vision impaired, whose pupils did not respond correctly to large amounts of sunlight. I taught a student who had albanism, who had to wear dark glasses all the time.
