Circus Peanut Candy

When I was young, I enjoyed this sweet candy. I don't know how many of you remember them.

This marshmallow candy was invented in the 1800s. They are an orange, peanut shaped candy with a unique banana flavor. They are one of the original "penny candies".

They were usually popular in the Spring and at Easter. Today the two main manufactures of the candy are Brach's and Melster. You can also buy them on line from Candy Warehouse, Spangler Candy and Old Time Candy.

They have been used in recipes also. One old time favorite recipe from my family is Circus Peanut Salad.

1 package orange jello
18 circus peanuts candy
1 small can crushed pineapple
1 small carton Cool Whip

Put 1 cup hot water in pan, add jello and circus peanuts. Heat until circus peanuts melt, stirring constantly. Drain pineapple and add enough cold water to make 1 cup and add to jello mixture. Let set until partially jelled. Add Cool Whip and crushed pineapple. Let set until firm.

On the same note this year you can get Easter Bunnies and Chicks made from the same recipe as the circus peanuts.they come in a mix of three colors blue,yellow,and peanut orange.they are made by Brachs and i've seen them in Walmart and Dollar General.believe it on not Dollar General sells them for 28 cents cheaper then wallyworld.

I see Walmart having some trouble. Amazon is really giving them completion.

Thanks for the recipe @donna, I remember enjoying this candy. I enjoyed the circus too, but that's not PC anymore. Too bad they were the delight of many children, as was the food.

Walmart's online sale were disappointing to them as i feel people still feel they are a brick and mortar store.shopping online at walmaart iscnot everyones first choice.

Well, Walmart isn't as good as Amazon with shipping prices, which is part of their online business problem. The other issue some items can't be delivered to you and must be picked up in the store. Which frustrated me, so I went back to Amazon!
