Although Marines are known as Leathernecks The US Army used leather neck stocks from 1775 until 1871. The soldiers did not overly care for them. The US Army had some leather neck stocks made during the Civil War but they were not universally supplied. The US Army only obtained 467,000 during the Civil War so not every soldier could have received one.

I am not sure the Confederate Army made any effort to supply thier troops with leather neck stocks.

Looks comfortable to me. Do reenactors wear these?

No, since you would be hard pressed to find a photograph of them in the field. Reenactors are infamous for replicating anything seen in a period photograph...........I have even seen a reenactor trying to replicate the following look:

Well the Army purchased at least a half of million of these during the Civil War so they are "period".
