It is a sad place. Last time i was there, i guess 30 years ago there was a horse by Mead's headquarters. Very nice horse too. Seemed to be a very serine in a place that saw so much violence.

Just to clarify, the Spring House Tavern is for lunch. Since you said you don't want expensive or fine dining, you certainly don't want to go to the Dobbin House for dinner.
I have eaten many "dinners" at The Spring House . 1/2 roasted chicken ,salad and baked potato is pretty good dinner ! Been going there for 20+ years and that is usually what I order.

Where you able to see her while at the table? I went there one time to eat and needed a flashlight to read the menu.
My experience was that the Springhouse Tavern is fairly dim, whilst the Dobbin House was pretty well lit. (But it was a while ago!)
