Chickamauga Chickamauga Creek

Can you recommend a good Canon camera for a beginner cutting his teeth? Not for me. It's for a friend. :D:D

I've had both a Canon and Nikon. Both have done really well so I can't say I'd pick or choose one over the other. The Canon was not a DSLR but was basically as close as you can get to one, in terms of quality, without being one. It was a great starter camera but unfortunately I've already forgotten the model number, gave it to my mom a few years back. Either way both are good brands, it just depends on how much money you want to spend.

Edit: I dug up a few pictures that I took with the Canon. I'll try to get the model number for you, although I'm sure they have a newer version since that one is 3 years old now. It had a great zoom on it though and that was without needing to buy an extra lense.

The pics were great. Not looking to spend a lot since it will be starter camera, but I am willing to spend a little for a nice one. Just trying to find something simple to use to cut my teeth on. Wanting something that takes better quality photos than my Droid Maxx phone. Time to take a step up.

Photographers argue endlessly over the merits of Nikon versus Canon (Google that phrase and see what comes up). I have and use both. I honestly cannot detect any difference in the results I get. If you like Canon consider the series 2ti to 5ti with the 18-55 lens. Camera are light and that kit lens is darn good. I usually buy my equipment used from one of the on line set ups but if this is your first DSLR go to a shop and make sure you know how to use it before you leave.

I've been very happy eschewing Canon and Nikon both in favor of my Olympus.

Great pic, mt155.

Not very knowledgeable about cameras. Looking for help getting started. First thing is a camera that takes good pictures and easy for a newbie to operate. Open to suggestions for sure.

I'm glad this something on Chickamauga I have read and studied this battle many times it is probably one of the most fluid battles I have ever seen or read about. I have studied many battles and Chickamauga is right up there with the biggest I don't understand why more Civil War buffs don't discuss it. The more I read the more confusing it gets. From a Gettysburg guy.
