This doesn't pertain to the Civil War, but I would assume the Revolutionary War. I recently found a Charleville Musket.

Here are some photos.

Any opinions, information, or questions are greatly appreciated.

From my research it seems highly likely that this saw service with the Contenentals in the Revolutionary War
Yes nice I have one mounted on my wall above the real Brown Bess. Get an original bayonet for it now, I mount all my muskets with bayonets. YES you are correct, France sent some say up to 100,000 of these type muskets to America during the Rev War. BUT during the French Revolution France destroyed most of their stock pile of these old models to keep them from falling into the hands of the Revolutionaries. The French Troops keep there M1777 muskets during those times. SO YES chances are most of the surviving M1763/66/68s in the world today were used here in America during the Rev War! Also prices on these are dropping in the market, so everyone grab one!

Thanks, I believe you told me that before 👍. I love firearms, but with these old muzzleloaders you are holding a piece of American History in your hands, now just imagine if they could talk!

I own 2 french M/1822s that was made as flintlocks but then converted in 1848 as part of the sale of 20.000 of them to the Danish military. (They had a rebellion in the south to deal with...)

That M1822 is part of the same family... and just a newer model is rather clear.View attachment 422000
Very interesting information and beautiful muskets! Thank you.

I believe the OP musket shows the modification of 1773 as well (my model of 1766 has it as well) with the added rear band spring.

Finding a bayonet that fit was a challenge for me. The barrel on mine is the correct length, but something seemed odd. Eventually I did find one, and just wonder if the variation is the way they all are.

Do you mind me asking your source on that mod being done in 1773? TIA
