They look in a casual pose. I guess just having a rest for the day.

Based on the day, that looks like Culpeper, VA where the AOP made it's HQs after the Gettysburg campaign. The 72nd NY was in Chancellorsville and in Gettysburg. After those two battles, the good doctor, really deserved some rest :)
