This is impressive. I can't imagine the painstaking effort you put in this.
I ve attached a diorama a friend made last summer for the NPS headquarters in Fredericksburg. It's the Chatham crossing at Fredericksburg in '62

For this Diorama I thought I'd try my hand at doing something a little different. I made three figures out of Magic-Sculpt and from one of them I cut one up and made a mould of the head , body, legs and rifle and then cast them in resin.
So , simply by making hats and adding beards etc, I came up with nine different figures.

If I tried something like this my soldiers would look like Gumby. LOL you have a lot of talent. This is amazing.

Wow, that's amazing work, I love dioramas. It was an exhibition of dioramas at my local Museum that got me started in the hobby.
I've been to Chatham and stood looking over to Fredericksburg and tried to imagine what it would have been like back then, for me this diorama answers that , almost like having a time machine.
I hope I'm right in assuming that this Diorama is on permanent display so that I can see it in person next time I'm over?

Yes. It was created for display at the NPS Fredericksburg Hq., at Chatham. I have not been there to see it.
The photos I attached were taken at my friends house before it was moved to Chatham. He fully assembled it with the NPS oversight and guidance on authenticity.
The pictures I attached were done the day before it was moved from his home to Chatham, so about 2/3 of the wagons and cannons were already removed when I took the photos.
He had to disassemble it for the move, then reassemble it at Chatham.
My friend is a vet suffering from PSD and stated building dioramas for therapy. He also built one of Chancellorville and it's on display at the NPS building there. It was his first diorama. He built it then asked them if they were interested in it. So he presented it as a gift. The NPS commissioned him for Chatham.

My friend is a vet suffering from PSD and stated building dioramas for therapy. He also built one of Chancellorville and it's on display at the NPS building there. It was his first diorama. He built it then asked them if they were interested in it. So he presented it as a gift. The NPS commissioned him for Chatham.

Am I right in assuming this is the one at Chancellorsville. Just gone back through my pics as I'm always taking pictures of dioramas. Took this one in 2013. Very impressive.

I am 80% sure it is.
I only live about 4 miles from there but rarely go there. I haven't gone there since he donated it but since your photo is 2013 that would be within the correct timeframe.
He is retired USMC. As I recall him telling me; when he retired he visited the Battlefield at Chancellorville (or what's left of it.... ) and decided to recreate a miniature based on a sketch. Once he finished it he took it there and offered it as a gift. I THINK the NPS initially said no, but he was persistent and finally they relinquished after he agreed to make modifications that made it more authentic.
Several years ago they approached him this time to do the Chatham crossing, on commission!

I take my hat off to the guy, that truly is an amazing piece of work. When I see a diorama I'm like a kid in a candy store, you have to drag me away kicking and screaming.

i am a relatively patient guy but I don't think I have what it takes to do evan a simple one much less a complicated piece. He showed me many of the molds he made for Chatham and explained how he made them to scale. I think he said recreating the Rapphannock river to NPS 1862 specifications took four attempts.
