Another aspect of Lost Cause mythology that has thankfully faded is the idea that the South was overwhelmed only because of the superior resources of the Union, despite the brilliance and gallantry of the mystical Confederacy. We are now seeing more emphasis on the strategic mistakes made by the Southern leadership.
