I hope u guys r not upset about this....the presentation was 99% about Revolutionary war weapons. The guy showing the collection was a collector who got much of his stuff early and very cheap. He had a sword, it was half military and 1/2 sport, 1770s vintage, ivory handle and sterling silver with engravings- awesome. He had other items he had picked up - a powder horn with inscriptions which ended up being owned by a significant figure in the ARW. He had a loyalist "helmet" - Bear leather with a copper bands, and he was saying he had it tested 6 ways to sunday and it appears to be authentic but could not say 100%....he had metals analysis done on the fur to try to pinpoint it. He said they were exceedingly rare, which makes sense - people with money were loyalists but few took up arms, so I think the item was very valuable (He said when he died and was buried he would still have it in his hands.
Although many, many muskets came out of our immediate area, most had imported parts mixed and matched from Europe with many variations, especially on stocks and pans. The ACW was another 70 years down the road......an eye opener nonetheless. Few maker marks because if the British could trace the weapon back to you it could mean your hide....
