If we were to host an reenactment, would it be possible to have very many Calvary to participate? Is Elliot's Scouts in Missouri still active, and do they have any mounted gunmen?

May take a little while for my Kawasaki to get put back together, but I like your idea!

@major bill to answer your original question my experience would say 100%. Possibly 90% if a unit member brings a horse for a new recruit. Others have already posted about the extra expense, trouble and danger of Cavalry reenacting.
The worst "wreck" as we called them was a Living History at Stones River NMP. Same story, the horse reared and fell on the rider, got up and stomped on him. The wooden saddle broke his hip,pelvis and other bones. As this happened on Federal property the medical cost was picked up by the taxpayers. Amazingly this man came back the next year and rode with us many more.

Cavalry reenactors,regardless of age, don't take hits as a horse running loose could injure spectators.
