I'm curious if any oklahoma/texas reenactors are planning to attend the national cavalry competition in September (25?) at Ft. Reno, just west of Oklahoma City? I'm working upon a uniform for a corporal in the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen that I plan to wear while I'm volunteering at the event. Would like to meet/greet some reenactors from here in Indian Territory. Last year they had a member who showed up in full uniform on horseback wearing the 1951 pattern uniform. Pretty impressive re-creation. Anyway, look forward to any replies.

I had to look that one up

The National Cavalry Competition at Historic Fort Reno is a wonderful opportunity for re-enactors, active and reserve military mounted color guards, and mounted police officers to compete and improve their riding skills. Make your way to the fort for events that will include mounted saber, mounted pistol, military horsemanship and military field jumping demonstrations. Re-enactors will demonstrate the skills of the horse soldier before the advent of the motorized cavalry. Experience the thrill of thundering hooves and gleaming sabers at this unique event.

trooper d - abysmal. all the mounted people still there were ****** off that the army canceled all the team demonstrations. plus, kind of an indifferent reaction even from the folks I'd met. First time in uniform. I was the only one in period uniform, no other re-enactors, felt a little out of place. not a good intro. just bad timing.
but I've recovered. met some informed folks who are good sources for living history and re-enacting.
you cranking up for spring?

it was a great experience the first time I went. lot's of re-enactors, great demos by army teams and lots of people. this last time I should have sensed from the doom and gloom when I was out there several times before the event. seems army has reactivated at least two (?) of its mounted teams. hope more will follow.

June. George A's demise 150th. I'll be lucky to make that. We don't have anything around me. I tried getting something started but met with frustration. Nobody wants to play ball unless they get to make the rules when they don't lift a finger to do anything. The whole state is like this. Arizona, the criminal welfare state.
Sorry you had a bad experience out there with them critter boys. Maybe next one will be better.
Happy Spring Campaign!
Cheers!
