Hello:
I recently acquired this metal cavalry insignia piece. It looks to be some kind of reproduction - bronze maybe? Does anyone have any ideas on approximate timeframe and manufacturer?
Much appreciated.
Brian

Hi!
This is going to be a post civil war cavalry insignia. If the coloring is bronze and not a yellow brass it will be a 20th century piece. Civil war pieces are stamped so they are hollow on the back with soldered U shaped fasteners. Civil war are also thicker scabbards and 3 inches wide. Post war the scabbard are skinnier and the insignia smaller to fit on collars. These types show up around the turn of the century and given that this might be bronze colored it would be very similar to ww1 collar discs

Thanks @Salterr much appreciated!

I have very cheap quality Lemmy Kilmeister hat. I got burned with this POS hat. But it does have crossed sabers that are similar to tours. Your crossed sabers might be British. Neither of our emblems really look like American War of Secession pieces. Or the 1874 Indian Wars.
The Lemmy ones I have are solid pot metal with a bright gold like shine. They are tied to the hat with yellow elastic string.

Here are War of Secession, Post War Indian Wars and the Lemmy Sabers. Yours and Kenny's have a more straight hilt unlike the rounded hilts of the American mid 19th century Brass hat devices.
Let us know when you find out.
Cheers! And Happy New Year!
