I was looking at purchasing an original M1861 cartridge box for display. I see them with different stamps from different makers from different states. Were the troops from NY or MA issued boxes made by NY or MA contractors? Or did you get what ever came from a supply depot? Could a regiment NY have boxes made in ME or PA? Curious on how these were distributed. I know I need to pick up some books before I purchase, this question just popped iny head and thought the member here could help. Thanks, and Happy 4th!
