Uniforms Cartridge box identification

Recently acquired this reproduction cartridge box and don't know what it is for. Think it is for a carbine as it has an implement pouch and a cartridge tin. Union or Confederate? Not sure exactly what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

My first thought was pistol cartridge box, but after looking at the delimitations again, I'm going to have to second the carbine box. Although It is my the carbine boxes generally had a wood block instead of a tin.

No roller buckles, I wonder if it's this missing the wooden blocks meant to fit in the tins?

Looks like my Confederate carbine cartridge box. However, mine has a lead finial.

Most cartridge pouches of this time had a wooden insert holed for each cartridge:

Easier to reload on horseback - no 'feeling around' for cartidges.
