Tell me more! Canteen inscription, help identifying

A recent acquisition from a show. This smooth side canteen is inscribed around the spout. I would like a set of fresh eyes to see what you think it says. I don't know if the photos are in proper order, so keep that in mind. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

To me it looks like there is a V between the B and T.

I do not find a record for a soldier named Lindley who served from Vermont. I think the V that we see is scratches. The other letters are much more deliberate.

A single T could stand for Tennessee or Texas. I did not find a T J Lindley from Texas or Teaxs. But there are plenty of men named Lindley who have one of those initials - for instance a James Lindley served in Company B of the 24th Texas Cavalry.

To me it looks like there is a V between the B and T.

I'd suggest a hang tag with the two (so far) suggested ID's, so the ground gained so far isn't lost.
