Please forgive me for asking for help on this site I am in Maine so it wouldn't be from the civil war but I am thinking it could be from king Philips war it was the only conflict that I know of that happened were I found it. So I am sure someone here knows just about everything about cannonballs. It's about 3.5in wide it's only got one hole in it

Thanks for the info. It is hollow so would that be something that was in use in the late 1600s. I have been trying to get a general idea of the age and haven't been able to find information on when exploding rounds were put into service. I know you can't put a date on something like that. For me it's a pretty cool find and kind of a rarity to find in Maine

I did some more looking and answered my question. The mortar rounds were in service. Thanks again for the information

Better measurements please? Also depending where you are in Maine there was also battles in the American Revolution. It could also be a Grenade (yes they had them back then) think Fusiliers, thats why they had that matchbox on the front of their web belt across their chest. I have one myself recovered from Fort George.

Did I say Fusilier? I meant to say Grenadier!
