Active Civil War-era cannonball brought to Grand Rapids SafeChem site to be disposed of
The cannonball has since been removed from the area and will be x-rayed and then restored because it's a collector's item.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The Kent County Board of Commissioners emphasized the importance of the county's SafeChem drop-off sites on Thursday after someone used it to safely dispose of an active Civil War-era cannonball. After an initial analysis, it was determined that the cannonball was still live. The cannonball has since been removed from the area, and will be x-rayed and then restored because it's a collector's item.
