The second word is definitely "Thos" = Thomas. This was the common short version of the name.

They are positively not the same man.
I used the second name simply for comparison, as they were written by the same man, and the last names are similar.

But if the last name is 'Devand', could not find a Confederate soldier on the rolls with this name.

Similarly, found no Confederate soldier with a last name spelled, 'Doffinger'.

Yes - I find it quite reliable.

('Devand' only shows up for two Union soldiers: 'Louis Devand' and 'William Devand'

&

'Doffinger' for one Federal: 'Henry Doffinger')

There is a Thomas Devane in the Confederate Citizens Files. It says there is a paper filed with the rolls of Co. G. H. 13/26 Ga. Case of Norris N. Geddins.
