Can anyone help identify this gentleman?

I found this photo in Lexington VA and curious if anyone could help me out. If you look closely I believe there are the letters FOG or F06 that were once written? Thanks for any help.

Good luck in your search to identify the subject of your photograph. Because of the address of Holyland's studio being Pennsylvania Avenue, this cdv can definitely be dated 1860 - 1865. Holyland was an interesting guy in addition to being quite a successful photographer. To read more about him go here:

Perhaps he went back to be rephotographed by Holyland later in the war with a larger beard.

For a split second there I was 'wait what', Muhammad Ali, beard...noooo

In photo in question the nose is more pointed and eyebrows much lighter then photo of Clay. IMHO
