Someone is certainly confounding living in a democracy with being a slave. Interesting viewpoint, but has no connection with any logical or reasonable definition of slavery, I know.
As a matter Fact, the only result of the Civil War's ending was Emancipation, with which the south was only reconciled with, when Reconstruction was aborted and the south was allowed to retain the forms of slavery, if not the institution, itself.
