I am an ancestor to David Linn Burkhart and have done a lot of research of him and his 2 brothers who were all in the war. I have found some very interesting things but the one thing I really am searching for is photos of David and his brothers. Does anyone have any photos of David, William or Paul Burkhart or know where I could look for photos? Were all soldiers photographed when they enlisted or were there photos of the companies or regiments? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Lisa

Welcome From THE Heart Of Dixie. Soldiers were not photographed when they enlisted. Most wanted to send a photo of them home in uniform. Photo studios were only in the bigger cities. Some photographers even setup studios out in the camps. The soldiers paid for this out of their own pocket. What unit was he with would be a good place for us to start.

Welcome from the Shiloh/Pittsburg Landing Forum and North Mississippi! Hopefully one of our members will be able to assit you in your search.
Regards
David

Welcome from the Researching Your Civil War Ancestry forum - glad you found us! Pictures are hard to locate - reaching out to other descendants is often the best way to get them. I see @lelliott19 gave you a name of another member who is a descendant. Are you active on Ancestry or FamilySearch? That may be a way to find distant cousins.
Thank you for your response. I am very active in ancestry and Family Search. My family has many letters from David that he wrote home to his wife during the war. We donated to a museum the two flags and sword he brought back from the war. I have contacted many resources and relatives. Most relatives come to me for information as I have more information that many. The one thing I have left to complete my search is Davids picture. I have one of his brother who was in the same infantry but keep running into dead ends when it comes to David.

Ah - well then you have already consulted with the best person - yourself! Someone posted a good set of suggestions for finding photos not long ago - I'll see if I can locate it

Is there anyway besides replying on here that I can reach the person who offered me pictures? I sent her a reply but I am afraid she won't see it since it took me so long to answer her. Also I have a different email address I would like to use. I am very excited about the prospect of seeing these pictures and I don't want the chance to slip away. Any help would be great.
Member @catheb51 seems to frequent CWT fairly regularly. If I were you, I'd send a PM (private message). Just go up to the little envelope icon at top right, click on it and choose "Start a New Conversation" adding @catheb51 as a recipient. Better yet, I'll start the PM for you and invite both of you to the conversation.

I got your e mail. I'll copy the photos and send them to you. Please send me your mailing address. Thank you. Cathe Brennan
