According to Wiregrass to Appomattox, "Bryan's Brigade defended a position in the center of McLaws' division in Dry Valley about three miles from Chattanooga and one and one-half miles from Lookout Mountain." Does anyone know specifically where that would be in modern terms. I am in the area today and would love to visit.

Go to the Visitor Center at Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Ask for Jim Ogden. If he is not working today, ask to leave him a message. On the message you jot down to leave be sure to include a way to contact you.

Youre going to need much more specific information to find the right place, but the description - Dry Valley, 3mi from Chattanooga and 1 mi from Lookout Mtn -- puts you in this vicinity, slightly south and west of Rossville.

Thank you, this at least gives me a more specific idea than I had, I will make sure to follow your suggestion at the visitor's center.

McLaws Division was strung out on a line just west and to the south of Reed's Bridge. They occupied the left wing with Preston, and Bushrod Johnson, then McLaws and Stewart. They were in a heavily wooded area that helped form an angle back toward Reed's Bridge from Lee and Gordon's Mill. They were positioned almost one mile due west of Alexander's Bridge. This was on September 19th of the battle, using the Official Atlas map, Plate 46, page 132.
Lubliner.
