When I was looking up the Brown Water Navy it brought up Vietnam's pontoon guys. While looking at the pictures, I just picked this one at random and, looking closely, this appears to be John Wayne standimg up (no relation to my profile pic.) It would appear this was taken for The Green Berets, but no scene like this is in the movie. Was he visiting Grunts in a Hollywood uniform? Seems in poor taste.

My grandfather was a carpenter in the Air Force, at Pleiku. He saw Bob Hope in Taiwan, but no Raquel Welsh

We were actually talking about it at New Year's, coincidently.

Looks cool. The Vicksburg fleet always fascinated me, as well as the Union's overall Navy.

He has an interesting chapter on the gunboats at Shiloh and their use of the terrain and the flooded state of the river on April 6.
