Bleeding Kansas was a critical period in the life of John Brown. Brown went to Kansas after his sons wrote him a letter in which they stated they needed arms to counter threats from pro-slavery forces in the area. Another event which is always brought up has been referred to as the Pottawatomie massacre. Five proslavery men were killed with broadswords by Brown and his men.

But why did Brown target these men? Were they innocent? John Brown author Louis Decaro explores the important history of John Brown and bleeding Kansas in the following video starting at 11 minutes.
