Why are these blankets around I can't find any original examples with stripes down all 4 sides is this acceptable even with the strictness of historic standards

Who made it? Is 100% wool? Are edges hand stitched? Going for a Federal or Confederate impression? At strict events on the Federal side they typically want to see one of the Federal issue variants. Civilian blankets are more common on the Confederate side so you have more leeway but still have to be proper materials.

The picture is a bit blurry, but it appears the edge is machine stitched. I'm no expert, but if you provide a few more photos with the edges clearly visible, as well as the dimensions and weight, I'm sure someone will be able to give you a much better idea of what you're looking at.

Looks similar to the old Woolrich Blankets. Good blankets but not quite up to strict authentic standards but perfectly fine in mainstream settings. A really good Federal issue blanket will set you back 2 to 250$ but they're worth their weight in gold on a cold night and acceptable at the campaigner events for either side.

I've been doing this a long time, and I can say from experience, and I'm sure most of the folks on the thread will agree…if you're improving your kit, authentic blanket and footwear are the two items you want to get squared away as quickly as possible. Buying the right shoes will save you from having sore feet for weeks after, and will last forever if you take care of them. And having grown up in Michigan, I can attest to the difference between for example a camping or "horse blanket", and say the ones sold by Tart and WWCo.
