As the title says. I'm looking for the "best" (define that as you will) book on Confederate swords for someone who is looking to dip a toe into those very deep waters. My goal is to purchase one, but I want to educate myself before I even begin a search for one. I do not have a particular type or model in mind at this point, so a book that informs on the various types would probably be best for me.

I do see a book titled Handbook of Confederate Swords by Albaugh and Steuart but have no idea if that's a good one in comparison to what else might be out there.

So, for those in the know, what book do you recommend?

Thanks!

I have 2, Albaugh's is a great book on just CS swords. Bezdek does cover both. Lots of photos in both.

Albaugh's Photographic Supplement (with addendum) is the updated and more comprehensive version of Handbook. The latter only has line drawings of the swords. Bezdek is good. But the most comprehensive and up to date Confederate sword reference today is in Shannon Pritchard's Collecting the Confederacy. Right now it is pricey but patient shopping can yield a better bargain.

Another great resource is John Sexton's website, and it is free: http://civilwarappraiser.com/. Click on the Gallery tab.

I have worn out two copies of Photographic Supplement from constant use over the years.

@scooter748driver

The posts above have nailed it on the books. "Collecting the Confederacy" by Shannon Prichard has brilliant color photos of anything you may encounter in your quest for a CSA sword, and I'd put it at the top of the list because of it.

Buying "Confederate" weapons is unfortunately a minefield... Caveat Emptor 😟
{check the "Buford sword" posting}

Should you choose to delve into CSA imported English swords {ornate hilts and detailed blade etchings};
The English Connection is a must. discounted @collegehillarsenal.com

"looking to dip a toe" plus dip deeply into your bank account for Confederate Swords! No more trips to Vegas, start playing LOTTO, tell the kids to pay for their own College, stay Single, etc. if you really want to collect them!

I understand they can be very expensive and one must tread lightly and do a lot a research (or buy from a trusted vendor) to go this route. I didn't say I wanted to collect them. At this point I'm looking to purchase just one.
