Bearded Generals and Admirals

I had thought to mention, in my thread, that it was about real beards, and not to include fantastically absurd phony beards such as those depicted in TV melodramas or films like 'Gettysburg', but I decided: naw, that would be understood. I forgot about Ole.

Most distinctive? Ambrose Burnside. Was it a moustache? Or a beard with a naked chin? And, for different? What's with Lincoln's beard but no mustache?

Trivia: At West Point, J.E.B. Stuart was nicknamed "Beauty." Why?
Ole

Is that JEB? Doesn't look like a picture I saw in which his chin was not particularly jutting manfully. This one (if it's himself) shows nothing of the kind. Maybe some girlie-man gave him the name?

The eyes have it. That's JEB. I've been deceived!:jawdrop:

Let us not contemplate a 'don't ask, don't tell' situation at West Point circa 1830-1860, please!

By the way, could that be Kilpatrick on the right? And who might be the fellow on the left?

Could very well be Kilpatrick on the right. Have no idea who might be the man on the left. Date of the photo? Circumstance?

beards

My vote would have to go to Joseph King Fenno Mansfield. Great beard and wild hairdo. Yes, he was a Union general
