Hey everyone,

My ggg-grandfather was in Co. G of the 51st North Carolina regiment. He was wounded at Battery Wagner of 18 July 1863. I am looking for a good solid history of the fight from the Confederate perspective. It seems like most of the histories lean heavily towards the 54th Massachusetts. There's a book by Frances Casstevens that deals with Clingman's brigade in general, perhaps that would be my best choice? I appreciate any advice!

I can't help with books but hopefully one our resident book geeks will know of a good CS history of Battery Wagner.

Wife's great grandfather and two brothers of the 23rd Ga were some of the last to be rotated out of Waggoner before it was abandoned. They were on the steamer Sumter when it was sunk by friendly fire on the night of 30/31 Aug. lucky there was little loss of life. https://markerhunter.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/loss-of-the-cs-steamer-sumter/

I grew up in Charleston and spent many hours fishing, staring at the old Morris Island Light and what had been Morris Island.
